Citi SalutesCalling all Boots to Business and V-WISE graduates! Got a great idea for a new business? Have a vision to take your current business to the next level? We want to hear from you!

Citi SalutesSM is excited to launch its second Realizing Your Dream Business Competition, in collaboration with two of the IVMF’s portfolio of veteran and military family entrepreneurship training programs, V-WISE and Boots to Business, which are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Citi Salutes is setting out on a national search for the next generation of veteran entrepreneurs! Ten finalists from each program will present their business plans to an expert panel of judges at the grand final event. A dozen winners will take home a total of $130,000 in prizes funded by the Citi Foundation, including special honors for Best Social Venture, Most Innovative Venture and an Impacting Veterans Prize. To support participants, the IVMF will offer classes and webinars during the Citi Salutes Business Plan Competition Laboratory to answer all business plan questions.

How to Access Google+

The laboratory will be administered via online pre- recorded presentations and office hours will be administered via Google +.  Online recorded presentations can be found here. In order to participate in the office hours portion of the lab you will need a Google+ account (instructions for account setup are listed below) and to sign up weekly via email to b2bbiz@syr.edu or vwisebiz@syr.edu .Please reference the complete schedule of presentation topics and dates below. Please follow the instructions listed below for establishing a Google+ profile account (download PDF here):

Tech Requirements:

  • Webcam
  • Headphones with microphone (preferred)
  • Internet connection (wired connection preferred)

Google+ Account Setup:

  • Please ensure that you have a web cam. This can either be hooked up to your monitor or is built into your laptop
  • Open a web browser and navigate to http://plus.google.com. **WHEN USING THE GOOGLE+ PLATFORM PLEASE UTILIZE THE GOOGLE CHROME WEB BROWSER**
  • If you already have a Gmail account, please log into your account and skip the next step
  • If you do not have an existing account, please click the “Create an Account” red button in the top right of the screen and complete the required steps for creating and activating an account

How to submit your business plan:

Only one submission of a business venture is permitted. Plans may not exceed 25 pages in length based on a document that is double spaced, 12 point font with one inch margin (including cover and text), the appendices may not exceed 10 pages in length (appendices are additional 10 pages to the 25 pages business plan which makes the total of 35 pages). Every competitor must submit a business plan and two page executive summary no later than March 6, 2015 11:59 PM EST. The executive summary may not exceed 2 pages (this is part of the 25 pages).  There may only be one submission per competitor. Submit at http://vets.syr.edu/education/realizing-your-dream-business-competition/ . The submission must be in pdf format, with the files titled as follows:

  • File name for the business plan:  lastnamefirstinitial_businessplan
  • File name for the executive summary:  lastnamefirst initial_executivesummary
